Sea heroes: the faces, experiences and work of small-scale fishers

Porto Antico-Slow Fish Arena

Mariëlle Klein Lankhorst is a Danish photographer with a passion for travel.

Her most important journey has turned into a long-term project around Europe’s coasts, including the Netherlands, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Ireland, to meet, interview and learn about small-scale fishers. Loubie Rusch is a South African chef who works side by side with local communities to promote their products, thus embodying our vision of the chef as bridge between producers and consumers. Lauri Hamalainen is a Finnish fisher, and member of Snowchange, an organization that works with indigenous communities in the north of the country. Over the years Snowchange has become an important scientific reference point in the debate on climate change and traditional fishing techniques in the region.
