Migrant Community Events

“Shadows of faces, faces of sailors, where do you come from, where are you going…” So sang Fabrizio De André, reflecting the fact that Genoa has always been a crossroads of cultures.

So it’s only natural that Slow Fish will feature opportunities to meet the Ligurian capital’s immigrant communities, hear their stories and taste their cooking.

The event’s program features many activities, perfect for doing with family or friends. If you like the idea of wandering the city’s maze-like caruggi, try the fascinating Migrantour, which takes in shops, fishmongers and new restaurants run by migrants. You’ll have a chance to listen to their stories and try their food.

On Saturday the Slow Fish Arena will be taken over by the Coordinamento Ligure Donne Latinoamericane (CoLiDoLat). Writers, singers and poets will be transporting visitors to South America, with poems by Pablo Neruda, readings from Gabriel García Marquez and popular songs to dance to, all based around the theme of the sea. Of course there will be a tasting of typical local dishes at the end.

And throughout the event keep an eye on the Market Kitchen program, where members of immigrant communities will be taking turns at the stove, preparing their traditional dishes and giving visitors a taste of Haiti, Senegal and more.
